Shock absorbers are classified based on cylinder structure into two types:
- Single Cylinder (Mono Tube) Shock Absorbers:
- All components (oil, gas, piston, valves) are in one cylinder.
- Provides better heat dissipation and stable viscosity.
- Ideal for high-performance and heavy-duty vehicles.
- Can be harsher and more prone to external damage due to high gas pressure and single-layer structure.
- Double Cylinder (Twin Tube) Shock Absorbers:
- Consists of two stacked cylinders: inner cylinder holds oil and the outer contains nitrogen gas.
- Offers a smoother, more comfortable ride with better vibration control.
- Less efficient at heat dissipation but more suitable for regular vehicles.
In summary, single cylinder shocks are best for performance, while double cylinder shocks offer better comfort for everyday use.
